MOUNT CARMEL — Donna Marie Phillips, 64, of 44 S. Spruce St., passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born in Danville, Sept. 16, 1949, a daughter of Olga (Shuptar) Anelauskas, of Mount Carmel, and the late Joseph Anelauskas.
Donna was a 1967 graduate of Mount Carmel High School and attended Alderson-Broad College in West Virginia.
She was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel.
On Sept. 8, 1979, in Holy Cross Church, Mount Carmel, she married Donald Phillips, who survives.
She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mount Carmel.
She was employed at Mountain View Manor, Geisinger Medical Center as a unit desk clerk, a receptionist in the MRI Unit and as a research assistant in the MRI Unit. She also worked for Family Medical for a short time.
She published a book of poems entitled "Angel Who Hover," which was sold locally. She enjoyed shopping, golfing and playing the piano
She and her husband conducted a ministry at Northwestern and North Central juvenile facilities for 12 years. She spent time writing to some of these juveniles; they all called her "mom" and they adopted her as their mom.
In addition to her mother, Olga Anelauskas, and her husband, Donald, survivors include an aunt, Mildred Capperell, of Hazleton; several cousins, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, uncle-in-law, father-in-law and mother-in-law, as well as her pet cats.
She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Joseph, in May 1989, as well as by aunts and uncles.
PHILLIPS — Donna Marie Phillips, 64, of 44 S. Spruce St., Mount Carmel. Relatives, friends and neighbors are invited to attend a Divine Liturgy to be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at SS Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 131 N. Beech St., Mount Carmel, with the Very Rev. Archpriest Michael Hutsko officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mount Carmel Township.
