KULPMONT — Dorothy M. "Aunt Dot" Tomtishen, 80, of 144 Colorado Circle, passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born at home in Mount Carmel, Nov. 18, 1933, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Anna (Pesarchick) Boylan.
She was a 1951 graduate of Mount Carmel Catholic High School and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Scranton in 1954.
On June 30, 1956, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel, she married Leonard Tomtishen, who preceded her in death April 29, 1985.
She worked as a registered nurse for a short time at Geisinger Medical Center, and for the rest of her long nursing career at Shamokin State General Hospital.
Dorothy was a very special person; tough but loving. She loved her family and friends and provided superior care to her patients. All of the people whose lives she touched knew she genuinely cared.
Surviving are her sister, Nancy Kerris, and brother-in-law, Dan, of Den Mar Gardens; a nephew, Daniel Kerris and his wife, Jacqueline, and their children, John Daniel, Ryan and Ella, all of Den Mar Gardens; and a niece Diane Kerris Fazio and her daughter, Sarah, of Tampa, Fla.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, John.
TOMTISHEN — Dorothy M. "Aunt Dot" Tomtishen, 80, of 144 Colorado Circle, Kulpmont. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of Our Lady, 47 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, with Father Francis Karwacki officiating. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. A viewing will be held from 8:30 to 10:45 a.m., vigil prayers at 10 a.m., at the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, C.J. Lucas IV, supervisor. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made in her name to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School, 2001 Clinton Ave., Coal Township, PA 17866.
