E. Yvonne (Irick) Aston

COAL TOWNSHIP — E. Yvonne (Irick) Aston, 76, of Coal Township, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on April 16, 1936, at Geisinger Hospital, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Emma Leona (Schlegel) Irick.

In 1958, she met Frederick Charles Aston at the wedding of Ed and Cathy Eccker. Fred and Yvonne were married at St. John's UCC in Shamokin on Aug. 8, 1959. They honeymooned at Camp Bil-O-Wood, Blind River, Ontario, Canada, which remained their special place.

She was a 1954 graduate of Coal Township High School and a 1957 graduate of Harrisburg's Polyclinic School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Geisinger, and for Dr. Davis in his Sunbury Street, Shamokin, practice from 1959 through 1969. From 1969 until her retirement in 2000, she worked as a registered nurse and house supervisor at Sunbury Community Hospital.

In addition to her work as an RN, in 1963, Yvonne and Fred became third generation owners of Follmer Florist, in Coal Township, established in 1917, which they operated until their retirement in 2003.

In addition to her husband, Yvonne is survived by two daughters, Malinda Mae Carroll (spouse JC Carroll), of Auburn, and Jennifer Susan Aston (partner Brian Burke), of Coal Township; four grandchildren, Sean Michael Carroll, of Auburn, Keith Charles (KC) Long, Jenna Mae Sebasovich and Draven Lee Miller, of Coal Township.

Yvonne was very active in Iris Chapter No. 306, Order of Eastern Star, where she served in many leadership positions. She was also a Mother Advisor for Assembly No. 126, International Order of Rainbow for Girls, where she helped shape the lives of many young women. She was a member of St. John's UCC, Shamokin, serving for many years as a Sunday school and nursery teacher and as a choir member.

ASTON — E. Yvonne (Irick) Aston, 76, of Coal Township. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Coal Township, with Rev. Dr. Robert Peiffer and Rev. Betty Bruaw officiating. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township. Viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
