Earl S. Kessler

Earl S. "Chip" Kessler, 83, of Dornsife died Monday, Nov. 19, at SUN Home Hospice Care Center, Sunbury.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Nancy (Adams) Kessler; the couple married Saturday, Aug. 29, 1953.

Born Tuesday, Dec. 18, 1928 in Erdman, he was a son of the late Sinary R. and Lola (Zerby) Kessler.

He attended the Kessler School in Erdman and served with the US Army from October 9, 1950-September 22, 1952 where he was stationed in Germany.

Chip was employed as a coal miner for 35 years having been employed at various local coal mines.

Surviving are three children, Wanda Astorino and her husband William, of Sunbury, Gary Kessler and his wife Alice, of Landisburg and Craig Kessler and his wife Trudy, of Dornsife; 7 grandchildren, Michelle Dolce, Elaine Kaup, Jamie Schaeffer, Mickey Kessler, Garin Delancy and Dustin and Brandon Kessler; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Leon Kessler and one sister, Carolyn Troutman, both of Elizabethville; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister and an infant brother; a brother, Mark Kessler; and two sisters, Mae Deppen and Pauline Fetterolf Coleman.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, 1133 Ridge Rd., Klingerstown, with Pastor Jane Compton officiating. Interment was in Himmel's Cemetery, Rebuck.
