TAMPA, Fla. — Dr. Edwin Weisbond, 90, formerly of Mount Carmel, Pa., died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, in Tampa, Fla.
Born in Philadelphia, he spent his formative years in Ashland.
He was a graduate of Ashland High School. After World War II, he attended Pennsylvania College of Optometry and graduated in 1950.
In 1941, he enlisted in the armed forces and served three years in Europe and North Africa in the 17th and 82nd Airborne divisions.
Dr. Weisbond was married for 47 years to Etta Wartman.
He and his wife resided in Mount Carmel for 35 years, where he practiced optometry before retiring to Florida. He was active in community organizations, including serving on the board of trustees of Bloomsburg University, Mount Carmel School Board, Lions Club, Masons, B'nai Brit, and Tiffereth Israel synagogue.
Dr. Weisbond's surviving family members include Fredda and Dr. Steven Weisbond, of Tampa, Fla., and Risa and Roland Young, of Tel Aviv, Israel; and grandchildren, Jay and Erin Weisbond and Lena Young.
