Elizabeth M. Mack

NEW CUMBERLAND — Elizabeth M. (Betty) Mack, formerly of 54 S. Franklin St., Shamokin, and Serenity Gardens, Kulpmont, and most recently, residing with her daughter in New Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013.

She was born Jan. 18, 1929, a daughter of the late Leo and Pearl Karpinski.

She was a 1946 graduate of Coal Township High School.

On May 26, 1951, in St. Stanislaus Church, Shamokin, she married Joseph P. Mack, who passed away April 12, 2003.

Throughout her years, Betty was employed as a legal secretary to the late Richard Henry Kline, Esq., of Sunbury, a secretary at Shamokin Filler Company, Shamokin, a bookkeeper at Anthracite Provision Company, Shamokin, and a legal secretary for the late George Nagle, Esq. She retired as the administrative assistant to the administrator at Mountain View Manor, Coal Township.

She was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin, where she was a lector for many years.

Betty will be remembered as an excellent cook (especially her chicken noodle soup at Christmas), a devoted mother, Mam-Mam and great-grandmother. Her greatest times were spent with her family and watching Notre Dame football.

She was survived by five daughters, Susan and Michael Dubb, of Newark, Del., Mary Beth and Mark Andrews, of Fairfax Station, Va., Joanne and David Bradley, of New Cumberland, Judith P. Fenix, of Elysburg, and Nancy and Simon Lorady, of Kulpmont; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Dubb) and Richard Rollo, Jennifer (Andrews) and T.J. Flynn, Amy (Dubb) and Kenneth Goodman, Katherine Andrews, Stephen Andrews, Cameron Fenix and Connor Fenix. In addition, she was the proud great-grandmother of Martha Rollo, Millie Rollo, Sarah Flynn, Liam Flynn and Brayden Goodman. She is also survived by two brothers, Joseph Karpinski, of Riverview, Fla., and Leon and Connie Karpinski, of Coal Township; a brother-in-law, Robert and Jean Mack, of Shamokin, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and Joe, her loving husband of 52 years, Betty was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond, in infancy, and a sister-in-law, Rose Karpinski.

MACK — Elizabeth M. "Betty" Mack, 84, formerly of 54 S. Franklin St., Shamokin, and Serenity Gardens, Kulpmont, and most recently, New Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Mother Cabrini Church, 200 N. Shamokin St. at Webster Street, Shamokin, with a parish friar as celebrant. Interment will follow Mass in All Saints Cemtery, Bear Gap. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday with a Christian wake service at 6 p.m. with her brother-in-law, Rev. Mr. Robert P. Mack, deacon, presiding, and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Betty's memory to Mother Cabrini Church or the Mother Cabrini Youth Center, both of 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin 17872, or the Visiting Nurses Association, 21 W. Independence St., Shamokin 17872.
