SHAMOKIN — Emma L. Walsh, 95, of 836 Race St., died Thursday morning, Aug. 29, 2013, at home.
Born in Shamokin July 31, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Mark and Julia (Csirip) Palko.
She graduated from Shamokin High School in 1936.
On June 17, 1943, she was married in St. Mary's Church, Shamokin, by Msgr. Matthew Siedlecki to Leon J. Walsh, who preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1994.
Emma was the head bookkeeper at Jones Hardware in Shamokin for 40 years before retiring in 1980.
She was a member of Mother Cabrini Church in Shamokin and a former active member of St. Mary's Church, where she worked for many years at the church's food stand at the Bloomsburg Fair. She also was a member of St. Mary's Sodality, First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association and National Council of Catholic Women.
She was past president of Mother Cabrini Council of Catholic Women and served as a member of Shamokin Hospital Auxiliary, Sunflower Club, Shamokin Elks Auxiliary and Shamokin Senior Citizens.
Emma was a member of the Sunday "coffee club" and attended many activities with her sisters and other members of the "Golden Girls."
She was well known for baking delicious cheesecakes, Christmas cookies and other specialities.
Emma was a devoted wife, mother, godmother and aunt who especially loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Attorney James L. Walsh, of Camp Hill; a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Gilger, of Shamokin, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special caregivers.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan; a daughter-in-law, Kitty (Endrizzi) Walsh; two sisters, Mary Anderson and Julia Kaminski, and two brothers, Joseph Palko and Stephen Palko.
WALSH — Emma L. Walsh, 95, of 836 Race St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin. A Christian vigil service will be held in the funeral home at 6 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School, 2001 Clinton Ave., Coal Township 17866.
