CAMP HILL — Ethel Jane (Weikel) Smith, 71, of Camp Hill, passed away at Holy Spirit Hospital Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.
Born June 11, 1941, in Ashland, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Weikel and Rhoda (Weikel) Weikel.
She was a 1959 graduate of Shamokin High School.
On Dec. 26, 1959, she married Marlin Lee Smith, who survives.
She retired from Highmark in Camp Hill, with more than 30 years of service working as a Medicare fair hearing officer.
Ethel was a lifelong member of Chapel Hill United Church of Christ, Camp Hill.
She loved to cook and bring people together with her cooking. She enjoyed entertaining and showing her love for family and friends with the food she prepared. Her children fondly remember helping her cook for "armies" of people.
Ethel was a loving, caring, strong, generous and godly woman who adored her family and spoiled her grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband of 53 years, Marlin, she is survived by two loving children, Timothy Smith, and his wife, Fran Kachnoskie, of Camp Hill, and Shelly Gibson, and her husband, John, of Enola, and three loving grandchildren, Kaitlin, Jonathan and Justin Gibson.
SMITH — Ethel Jane (Weikel) Smith, 71, of Camp Hill. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Chapel Hill United Church of Christ, 701 Poplar Church Road, Camp Hill, with the Rev. Dr. Galen E. Russell III officiating. Burial will follow a brief reception at the church in St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Gowen City. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. Ethel's family has entrusted her care to the Myers-Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, Mechanicsburg. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Aplastic Anemia and MDS, 100 Park Avenue, Suite 108, Rockville, Md. 20850, or the "kitchen fund" of her church.
