Eugene J. Kristoff

SUNBURY — Eugene J. Kristoff, 85, of Golden Living Center — Mansion Nursing Home, Sunbury, and formerly of Elysburg, passed away at 1 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at the nursing home.

Born Aug. 12, 1928, in Shamokin, he was a son of the late John and Agnes (Margicin) Kristoff.

He attended Coal Township schools.

He served in the U.S. Army, entering active service Dec. 15, 1950, and serving with the 100th Tank Battalion in the Korean War. He was wounded in action Oct. 6, 1951, suffering a disabling injury. He received the Purple Heart medal, the Marksman Badge, Korean Service Medal with three bronze service stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged Sept. 29, 1952.

On May 9, 1959, in St. Stanislaus Church, Shamokin, he married the former Bernice Madci, who preceded him in death Sept. 3, 1988.

Eugene worked for the railroad and for General Motors.

While living in Elysburg, he was a member of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church. While a patient in the Sunbury area, he was ministered to by the parish of St. Monica Church, Sunbury.

Surviving are a son, Joseph Kristoff, and his girlfriend, Sheri Kozar, both of Shamokin, and several cousins, including Richard Zaleski, Diane Williams and Robert Williams.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, John Robert Kristoff, in 1982, and a sister, Agnes Cristoff.

KRISTOFF — Eugene J. Kristoff, 85, of Golden Living Center — Mansion Nursing Home, Sunbury, and formerly of Elysburg. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Hope Church, the Holy Spirit Chapel, Chestnut and Oak streets, Coal Township. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Coal Township. Viewing will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin.
