Eugene L. "Koppy" Koppenhaver Sr., 82, of Myerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lebanon.
Born in Spring Glen, Oct. 5, 1931, he was a son of the late Edwin M. and Sula M. Schade Koppenhaver.
He served in the Army
during the Korean War
and was employed as a mechanic by Conrail, Enola, for more than 20 years. He previously worked at Cornwall Ore Mines.
A musician, he played mandolin in the Echoes of Grace Band and The Old Dogs and enjoyed repairing cars and watching the Phillies.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Clair, Arthur, Leon and Thomas Koppenhaver; and sister, Erma Scheib.
Surviving are daughters, Kim L., wife of Christopher Arnold, Lebanon, and Brenda L., wife of James Williams Jr., Robesonia; sons, Eugene L. Koppenhaver Jr., husband of Karen, Myerstown, Michael A. Koppenhaver, husband of Greta, Myerstown, and Brian A. Koppenhaver, husband of Regina, Denver, Pa.; his former wife, Evelyn "Becky" Barkus, Lebanon; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Lauretta Shultz, Harrisburg, and Arlene Deppen, Pillow; brother, James A. Koppenhaver, husband of Kathy, Omaha, Neb.; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Feb. 21 from Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown. There will be no viewing or visitation. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
