SUNBURY — Frank A. Delorso, 86, of 111 Dove Lane, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township.
He was born in Sunbury (Fishers Ferry), Jan. 15, 1928, a son of the late Margaret (Hoffman) and Angelo Delorso.
Frank attended Coal Township schools before entering the military to fight for his country during World War II
. He served in the U.S. Navy
as a boilerman third class. He also reenlisted and served in the U.S. Navy as a BTG 3 during the Korean War
On July 2, 1949, at St. Joseph Church, Coal Township, he married Jane (Keating) Delorso, who passed away May 18, 2007.
After returning home following his military service, he worked as a coal miner at D.H. & W. Coal Mines. He later worked for Hadden Safety Industries, which later incorporated to Allen E. Brown Inc. in Exton, doing highway construction and signage.
He was of the Catholic faith and a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township.
Frank was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed spending time gardening. He was the last surviving member of the original members of the All American Hunting Camp in Potter County; a life member of the Independence Fire Company, Shamokin, and a member of American Legion Post 201, Sunbury.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon L. Yoder and her husband, Robin, of Allentown; two sons, Frank M. Delorso and his wife, Sandra, of East Cameron Township, and Jamie Delorso, of Sunbury; four grandchildren, Peggy Delorso, of Shamokin, Cheryl Wegrzynowicz, of Catawissa, Ryan Yoder, of Stroudsburg, and Jakob Delorso, of Shamokin; a great-grandson, Travis Wegrzynowicz, of Catawissa; a sister, Virginia Halgash, of Warminster, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents and wife, Frank was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Delorso; a son, Gregory Thomas Delorso; a great-grandson, Michael R. Spade; three sisters, Lena Martin, Elizabeth Snyder and Margaret Dewalt, and four brothers, Angelo Delorso, John Delorso, Victor Delorso and Joseph Delorso.
DELORSO — Frank A. Delorso, 86, of 111 Dove Lane, Sunbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Church, First and Chestnut streets, Coal Township. Family and friends are invited to call at the visitation from 10 to 10:50 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will follow Mass in St. Edward Cemetery, Coal Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Hope Church, 863 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township 17866. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to James Kelley Funeral Home, James F. Kelley, director, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
