Frederick H. Klaiss

LAVELLE — Frederick H. Klaiss, 93, of Lavelle, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, at his home.

He was born in Lavelle, Sept. 27, 1920, a son of the late William and Ascelia (Buhl) Klaiss.

He attended Lavelle schools.

Frederick was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran who served in World War II.

He worked for many years in local coal mines and later at Alcoa Aluminum, Cressona, until his retirement.

Frederick and was a member of the Lavelle AMVETS and the Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Helen (Hinkel) Klaiss, of Lavelle; three sons and two daughters, Martha Appleman and her husband, Randy, of Danville, Henry Klaiss and his wife, Gail, of Hampton, Va., Arthur Klaiss and his wife, Evelyn, of Pasadena, Md., Eloise Riesle and her husband, Scott, and Frederick Klaiss and his wife, Eleanor, all of Promise Land; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Edward, in 1970, and a brother, Warren.
