BLOOMSBURG — Gertrude E. "Gertie" Oshman, 89, a longtime Locust Township resident, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Geisinger-Bloomsburg Health Care, where she had been a resident since August 2012.
She was born in Locust Township, Aug. 25, 1923, a daughter of the late Adolph and Sophia Hodoba Gregorowicz.
Gertie worked for the former Emenee and Central Penn factories in Catawissa. She also worked on the family farm and had a truck route in the coal region selling the produce she raised on the farm.
She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Slabtown.
Gertie enjoyed making candy, canning, preserving food and baking. She was always a farmer, liked to entertain and had a servant's heart.
Surviving are a sister, Theresa Doraski and her husband, Thomas, of Catawissa, and four generations of loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Oshman, who died in 2007, ending a marital span of 60 years. She also is preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Romanoski and Dorothy Oshman, and a brother, Adam Gregorowicz.
OSHMAN — Gertrude E. "Gertie" Oshman, 89, a longtime Locust Township resident. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Catawissa, with the Rev. Thomas I. Mannion as celebrant. Emtombment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Visitation for friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with rosary recitation at 7 p.m., at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa. Contributions in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, 304 Slabtown Road, Catawissa 17820.
