Herbert E. Felty, 79, of Pine Grove, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at home.
Born in Suedberg, Jan. 6, 1935, he was a son of the late John H. and Jennie Wise Felty.
Herbert enlisted in the Pennsylvania Army
National Guard Unit 121st Transportation Company in Pine Grove in 1955 and served for two years. He enlisted in the Army for an eight-year term assigned to Headquarters Company H&S US Army Agency, Europe, in Frankfurt, Germany, where he spent 25 months. He then transferred to the Air Force to complete his term of service, being honorably discharged March 6, 1963.
In November 1977, he enlisted with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard and served with the 211th Engineering Installation Squadron at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, retiring Jan. 5, 1995, after 21 years of outstanding service to the state and nation.
As a quality assurance evaluator, Master Sergeant Felty was instrumental in assisting the 211st in its worldwide mission of designing, installing and maintaining telecommunications systems.
He was last employed as a carpenter by Frantz Construction, Pine Grove. Herbert loved building projects with electrical and wiring components. He also enjoyed hunting.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Spatz, in 2001.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Barbara A. Fenstermacher Felty; son, Herbert John Felty and his companion, Cheryl Brown, Pine Grove; four grandchildren, Cory Spatz, Valerie Spatz, Chelsea Dease and Devon Spatz; and sister, Betty, wife of Robert Fidler, Pine Grove.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15 at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with Pastor Terry Jansma officiating. Interment followed in Suedberg Church of God Cemetery. The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the
