COAL TOWNSHIP — Irene M. Callahan, 91, of 827 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Mount Carmel Senior Living Community.
Born in Mount Carmel, Feb. 8, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Susan (Smith) Yakubick.
Irene was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School and was a homemaker in her own home.
On Nov. 29, 1941, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel, she was married to Joseph E. Callahan, who preceded her in death Feb. 11, 2000.
She was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and most recently was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township. She also was a member of the Mount Carmel Moose where she had been a past elected officer.
Surviving are three sons, James Callahan and his wife, Christine, of Atlas, John Callahan, of Coal Township, and Joseph Callahan and his wife, Sharon, of Beaver Springs; a son-in-law, Patrick O'Neil, of Coal Township; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann O'Neil, and a sister, Mary Louise Neumeister.
CALLAHAN — Irene M. Callahan, 91, of 827 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township, with Father Ray Orloski as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Beaverdale. A viewing will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin.
