Jean A. Troutman Schwak, 85, of E. Grand Avenue, Tower City died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Minersville, February 11, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Edgar and Kathryn Gunder Troutman.
She was a graduate of Tower City High School, Class of 1946 and Goldey-Beacom College, Wilmington, DE.
She was predeceased by a son, David Schwak; one brother, Robert Troutman.
Surviving are her husband, Peter Schwak, to whom she was married 60 years; four children, Richard Schwak, wife Jane, Tower City, Cathy Dubosky, husband John, Ashland, Jane Fitzpatrick, husband Dan, Harrisburg and Robert Schwak, wife Sheila, Dayton; a daughter-in-law, Linda Schwak, Marietta GA; a sister-in-law, Rose Troutman, Lebanon; five granddaughters, Emily Nagle, Erin Walter, Molly Stahl, Lindsay Schwak and Hannah Schwak; three grandsons, Peter Lewis, Paul Schwak and Collin Schwak, six great- grandchildren, Torren, Eve, Avery and Griffin Nagle, Price and Wilson Walter.
Jean was secretary to the late Patrick E. Kerwin, Esq.; The Honorable Genevieve Blatt, first woman member of the Cabinet in PA, Federal Judge E. Mac Troutman, State Senator Elmer J. Holland, Pittsburgh; a Receptionist in the Dept. of Finance at Ft. Indiantown Gap from 1979-1986 and secretary at Westwood Energy Corporation.
She was a lifetime member of Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Tower City, where she sang in the choir for over 30 years and was President of the Catholic Women's Club. She was co-founder of the former "Lad & Lassie Day School" for six years located at the former office of the West Schuylkill Herald, where she also worked. She was President of the Tower City Branch of the Federation of Women's Club and the first woman President of the Tower City Alumni Assn. From 1985-2000 she traveled to 20 countries.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City with Rev. Paul Rothermel. Burial will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the chapel.
