John Horengic Jr.

LANHAM, Md. — John Horengic Jr., 78, of Lanham, Md., formerly of Marion Heights, passed away with family at his side on Friday, April 5, 2013.

Born in the Boydtown section of Coal Township, Aug. 8, 1933, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Woytovich) Horengic.

A 1951 graduate of Kulpmont High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was later employed at Fort George G. Meade, Md., from which he retired.

On Feb. 7, 1959, in Barnsboro, he married the former Bernadette Kovach, who survives and to whom he was a devoted husband of 54 years.

He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Landover Hills, Md., and also was a member of Ukrainian Catholic National Shrine of the Holy Family, Washington, D.C.

He was an avid bowler and enjoyed collecting coins, and also enjoyed helping people in need.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Bernadette, are his children to whom he was a loving father, Patricia (Horengic) Shutty, of Gaithersburg, Md., and John Horengic, of Kemper, Texas; three beautiful granddaughters, Chelsie Raysor, Caitlyn Horengic and Marin Shutty; his brothers and sister, Carl Horengic, of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Daniel Horengic, of Paxinos, and Olga Slater, of Marion Heights, and their families. He also had numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He will be buried in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Md.
