RANSHAW — John Joseph Walters, 61, of 332 Main St., passed away at 7:39 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township. He had been ill for the past nine years and was a resident of Mountain View for three days.
He was born Oct. 31, 1952, in Shamokin, a son of the late Robert and Ida Jean (Bixler) Walters.
He attended Shamokin schools.
He formerly worked for The News-Item, Shamokin, and as a caretaker for the RCA grounds, Ranshaw.
John loved to hunt and fish.
Surviving are two sons, John J. Walters Jr. and his wife, Shannon, of Herndon, and Chad Walters and his wife, Amy, of Ranshaw; a daughter, Stacey Traver and her husband, Tom, of Ranshaw; nine grandchildren, Michael Walters, Daniel Amarose, Patrick Amarose, Andrew Traver, Katelyn Walters, Davin Traver, Allison Walters, Ayden Walters and Trent Walters; a great-granddaughter, Aleeah Walters; two brothers, Daniel Walters, of Ranshaw, and Albert Walters, of Coal Township; three sisters, JoAnn Doyle, of Coal Township, Sharon Wheary and her husband, Marty, of Coal Township, and Dory Spotts and her husband, Gary, of Overlook, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ronald Doyle.
WALTERS — John Joseph Walters, 61, of 332 Main St., Ranshaw. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Shamokin, with the Rev. Sam Bellivia officiating. Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
