John P. "Jack" Scholl

BLOOMSBURG — John P. "Jack" Scholl Sr., 90, of 50 Legion Road, passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born in Girardville, March 17, 1924, a son of the late Lee Dewey and Ida May (Richelderfer) Scholl.

He attended Shamokin High School.

He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

On Sept. 21, 1981, in Grace Lutheran Church, Shamokin, he married Arlene Anna Gordner, who died March 10, 2010.

John worked for the Reading Railroad as an engineer, conductor and yardmaster. He also worked part time for Laubach Auto Parts, Bloomsburg, and was a volunteer for Susquehanna Valley Medical Associates.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Shamokin, World War II Veterans Association and the Catawissa American Legion. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Shriners.

John is survived by a son, John P. "Jack" Scholl Jr. and his wife, Andrea, of Coal Township; a daughter, Jill Heitzman and her husband, Todd, of Coal Township; two grandchildren, Phillip Scholl and his wife, Cheryl, of Hagerstown, Md., and Jessica Halas and her husband, Ron, of King of Prussia; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Mason Scholl; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Alexa and Angel Halas; and a sister, Martha Jane Scholl, of Coal Township.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Mae Scholl.


SCHOLL — John P. "Jack" Scholl Sr., 90, of 50 Legion Road, Bloomsburg. At Jack's request, there will be no viewing and a private service will be held at a later date. Farrow Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
