RANSHAW — Leonard P. "Hooter" Huxta, 77, of 309 Main St., lost his courageous battle of eight months with cancer and died at home Friday, April 25, 2014.
He was born in Keiser, May 16, 1936, a son of the late Paul and Frances (Gricoski) Huxta.
Leonard attended St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic School and graduated from Kulpmont High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps
from 1954 to 1957, having attained the rank of sergeant before being honorably discharge.
He was a forklift operator for the Sealed Air Corporation for 55 years.
On Oct. 24, 1959, in St. Anthony's Church, Ranshaw, he married the former Harriet Gronski, who preceded him in death April 26, 2005.
Leonard was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin, and formerly of St. Anthony's Church. He also was a member of the Keiser Gun Club, a life member of both the Brady and Marion Heights fire companies, a 39-year member of American Legion Post 231, Kulpmont, and a member of the Catholic War Veterans.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman and gardener.
Surviving are his children, Patricia Feese and her husband, Russell, of Ranshaw, and Leonard Huxta Jr. and his wife, Colette, of Shamokin; four grandchildren, Michael Feese and his fiancee, Randi Wywadis, Steven Feese, and Timothy and Ashley Huxta; a sister, Marion Huxta, and several nieces and nephews.
HUXTA — Leonard P. "Hooter" Huxta, 77, of 309 Main St., Ranshaw. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mother Cabrini Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass and are asked to meet at 11:15 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Brady Fire Co. Equipment Fund, 700 Maple St., Ranshaw 17866, or Mother Cabrini Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin 17872. Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, has charge of arrangements.
