Lester K. Waugh

COAL TOWNSHIP — Lester K. Waugh, 81, of 1339 W. Water St., passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, in his residence.

Born in Shamokin, June 11, 1938, he was a son of the late Lester L. and Iva (Krebs) Waugh.

After graduating from Coal Township High School, Lester joined the U.S. Army in 1949 and earned the Air Medal, expert infantryman's badge, two Army Commendation medals, five Good Conduct medals, Occupation of Europe Medal, two National Defense medals, Armed Force Expeditionary Medal and the expert rifleman's badge.

The Army man completed four tours of duty in Germany, one in Korea and one in Africa, completing 89 combat missions.

Although an infantry man, Sgt. Waugh was awarded the Air Medal by the President of the United States in 1964, after he received the medal for meritorious achievement while on an aerial flight in the Republic of Congo.

Sgt. Waugh married the former Dolores Bash, who survives. The couple have two sons, Richard Alan Waugh and Lee Kevin Waugh, along with two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a brother, John William Waugh, of Florida.


WAUGH — Lester K. Waugh, 81, of 1339 W. Water St., Coal Township. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Farrow Funeral Directors, Shamokin, has charge of arrangements.
