Margaret E. Pensyl

COAL TOWNSHIP — Margaret E. Pensyl, 91 years young, of 1246 Center St., Tharptown, went home to be with her Lord Friday, March 22, 2013.

She was a daughter of the late Dorsey A. and Mary J. (Rumberger) Snyder.

She graduated from Coal Township High School in 1939.

Margaret was married at the First Baptist Church, Shamokin, in 1941 to Melvin E. Pensyl, who preceded her in death. It was a love that lasted 40 years until his death in 1981.

She worked at Shroyer's Dress Company and Mae Jones Gift Shop before becoming a full-time homemaker.

Until her illness, she served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, flower secretary and trustee at the First Baptist Church, Shamokin, where she was a member for more than 80 years.

She was an accomplished seamstress, designing and creating beautiful clothing for family and friends. She was very creative and loved doing crafts and fine needlepoint. In later life, she learned how to quilt and made over 14 quilts, all hand stitched.

Margaret is survived by three daughters, her caregiver, Judith Pensyl, Susan Tetkoskie and her husband, Daniel, and Nancy Barber and her husband, Michael, all of Coal Township; four grandchildren, Jason and Bernedette Lorenz, David Barber and Nancy Shwenk, Aaron and Ny Barber and Megan Barber; seven great-grandchildren, Jason, Isabella, Rania, Jada, Jessica, Taylor and Olivia; a brother, Carl Snyder, of Reading; a sister, Dorothy Kuzmick, of Layton, Utah; a half-brother, Wilbur, and a half-sister, Elsie.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Chester, John, Leroy and Robert; and a sister, Martha.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

PENSYL — Margaret E. Pensyl, 91, of 1246 Center Street, Coal Township (Tharptown). A religious funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township, with the Rev. Samuel E. Derr, pastor of First Baptist Church, Shamokin, officiating. Interment will be held in Pine Hill Cemetery, Elysburg. Friends are invited to call at the visitation in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions as an expression of sympathy be made to First Baptist Church, 10 E. Lincoln St., Shamokin 17872; or VNA Hospice, 21 W. Independence St., Shamokin 17872.
