Marie C. (Neary) O'Day

COAL TOWNSHIP — Marie C. (Neary) O'Day, 85, of 1450 W. Walnut St., passed away early Monday morning, July 8, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, after a sudden illness.

She was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Polynack) Neary.

Marie was a 1945 graduate of Coal Township High School.

She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township, and remained active with the Coal Township High School's Alumni Association.

Surviving are three sons, Michael O'Day Sr., and his wife, Mary, of Honesdale, Daniel O'Day, of Alexandria, Va., and Dennis O'Day and his wife, April, of Coal Township; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Patrick Neary, of Piscataway, N.Y., Michael Neary, of West Babylon, N.Y., and Daniel Neary and his wife, Jean, of Coal Township; the nieces and nephews whom she helped raise, Emily Pressley and her husband, Neal, of Lancaster, Edward Laughlin and his wife, Pilar, of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Teresa Morgan and her husband, William, of Phenix City, Ala., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Neary, Rita Golden and Janet Dietrich; five brothers, Joseph, Walter, Nicholas "Jim," Thomas and Timothy Neary, and a granddaughter, Kathleen Marie.

O'DAY — Marie C. (Neary) O'Day, 85, of 1450 W. Walnut St., Coal Township. A religious funeral service will be held at noon Friday at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township, with the Rev. Mr. Robert P. Mack, Deacon of Our Lady of Hope Church, presiding. Interment of Marie's cremains will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Coal Township. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Coal Township High School Alumni Association.
