Marie L. Evans

SHAMOKIN — Marie L. Evans, 81, of 201 W. Mulberry St., passed away 2:10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading.

Born in Shamokin, Aug. 14, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Pauline (Zmudzin) Gross.

A lifelong resident of Shamokin, she was a 1949 graduate of St. Edward School.

Marie worked for Arrow Shirt Co., a division of Cluett and Peabody, and as a PBX operator for the Shamokin State General Hospital until her retirement.

On Feb. 12, 1955, in St. Stephen Church, Coal Township, she was married to Richard Evans, who preceded her in death in March 1972.

She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township.

Surviving are three children, Richard Evans, and his wife, Margaret, of Chambersburg, Leontine Williard, and her husband, Kerry, of Wyomissing, and Ann Marie Stoud, and her husband, Barry, of Shamokin; six grandchildren, Ashley Evans, Chelsea Evans, Barry Stoud, Ryan Stoud, Stuart Williard and Emily Williard; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Kieffer Evans; two sisters, Leontine, FSSJ, of Hamburg, N.Y., and Jean Martinchick, and her husband, Joseph, of Chambersburg; a sister-in-law, Catherine Gross, of Coal Township, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Sean Evans and Adam Lee Stoud, and four brothers, Andrew, Anthony, Raymond and John Gross.

EVANS — Marie L. Evans, 81, of 201 W. Mulberry St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our lady of Hope Church, Coal Township, with the Rev. Joe Bayne as celebrant. A viewing will preceded Mass at 9 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Franciscan Center Youth Shelter, 19109 Seneca St., Buffalo, N.Y. 14210. Olley-Gotlob Funeral Home, Sunbury, has charge of arrangements.
