Mary C. "Sis" Zuech

MOUNT CARMEL — Mary C. "Sis" Zuech, 73, of 39 S. Chestnut St., passed away at home Friday, April 25, 2014, after having battled Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) for years.

She was born in Ashland State Hospital, Aug. 22, 1940, a daughter of the late Enoch and Gertrude (Scheuren) Kroutch. She was a lifelong resident of Mount Carmel.

Mary was a loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother.

A 1958 graduate of Mount Carmel Catholic High School, she received a certificate and teacher's certification from the Thelma Tharp Beauty School. She worked at Havenstein's, Little Bear Supermarket and Kmart.

On May 12, 1962, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel, she married Henry J. Zuech, who survives.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She also was treasurer of the Bishop L.F. Schott Assembly Ladies of the Fourth Degree and a member of the Westminster Society.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Henry, are three daughters, Debbie Zuech-Smyrl and her husband, Robert, of Hatfield, Theresa Zuech-Cesari and her husband, Joseph, of Palmyra, and Amy Lynn Zuech-Isaacs and her husband, Ronald, of Greencastle; a son, Edward Zuech and his wife, Leanne, of State College; four brothers, Enoch Kroutch and his wife, Dolores, of Hatboro, John Kroutch and his wife, Toots, of Birdsboro, George Kroutch and his wife, Mary, of Mount Carmel, and James Kroutch and his wife, Joan, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Jonathan, Nathaniel and Matthew Smyrl, Christin and Nicholas Cesari, Mykela Lynn Isaacs, Jason, Aubrey, Cara and Dylan Zuech, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Kroutch, who died in childhood.


ZUECH — Mary C. "Sis" Zuech, 73, of 39 S. Chestnut St., Mount Carmel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel, with the Rev. Jonathan Sawicki as celebrant and the Rev. Francis Karwacki as concelebrant. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with rosary recitation at 8 p.m., at the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, C.J. Lucas IV, supervisor. Visitation will also be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Foundation for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy c/o CurePSP, 30 E. Padonia Road, Suite 201, Timonium, Md. 21093.
