Mary M. Coaker

MOUNT CARMEL — Mary M. Coaker, 80, of Mount Carmel, formerly of Shamokin, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at her residence.

Born April 19, 1933, in Shamokin, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Florence (Ebright) Backes.

She married John T. Coaker Jr., who preceded her in death on 1998.

She was employed as a presser for more than 37 years for various clothing and manufacturing companies in the area.

She enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Surviving are six children, John T. Coaker III, of Vermillion, S.D., April A. Godin and her husband, Dave, of Lansdale, Vera M. Raczkowski, of Albrightsville, George A. Coaker, of Sunbury, William H. Coaker, of Lehighton, and Derek M. Coaker, of Coal Township; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles H. Backes, of Coal Township, and a sister, Mary Geary, of Greenbriar.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Raczkowski; a great-grandson, Julian Raczkowski; a brother, Edward, and two sisters, Patricia Erdman and Susan Schell.

COAKER — Mary M. Coaker, 80, of Mount Carmel. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
