ASHLAND — Mary M. "Toots" Haley, 98, of Ninth and Walnut streets, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, at her home in Ashland.
She was born in Lost Creek, May 18, 1915, a daughter of the late Maurice and Margaret (Wolf) Groody.
She attended West Mahanoy Township schools and graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College.
She taught at the Port Carbon Special Education School and taught third grade at North Schuylkill Elementary School, Girardville, from 1968 to 1983.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Ashland.
She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Haley and her fiancé, Rick Hawk, of Ashland, and Marilou Haley Meskunas, of Frackville; five grandchildren, Marianne Meskunas, Kathleen Haley Link, Anne Haley Scarazzo and Michael and Joseph Meskunas; six great-grandchildren, Amanda Meskunas, Nikolas Houck, Madeline Link and Shane, Kylie and Cole Meskunas; a daughter-in-law, Rosalie Haley; a special niece, Jacqueline Crane Veres; a special buddy, Mollie Malone, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clement J. Haley, in 1963; a son, Clement Haley, in 1997; a sister, Margaret Crane, in 1997; a brother, Joseph Groody, who died in action in France in 1944, and a son-in-law, Donald Meskunas, in 2008.
HALEY — Mary M. "Toots" Haley, 98, of Ninth and Walnut streets, Ashland. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Ashland, with the Rev. John W. Bambrick as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fountain Springs.
