Melvin E. Engle

ASHLAND — Melvin E. Engle, 74, of 15th and Centre streets, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Schuylkill Medical Center Norwegian St., Pottsville.

He was born in Donaldson, July 29,1939, a son of the late Melvin F. and Mildred (Morgan) Engle.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the USS Oglethorpe, USS Little Rock, USS Allen M. Summer and the USS Mullinix.

He retired from USDA in 2004 after working 20 years for the federal government.

He coached little league in Easton and was a avid racoon hunter, member of the American Kennel Club and was a bench show judge for hounds for 20 years.

He is survived by three daughters, Melody Cooney, of Ashland, Cindy DeRohn, of Upper Black Eddy, and Rosanna Engle-Wolf, of Easton: three sons, Rusty Spencer, of Easton, Colin Engle and his wife, Anita, of North Carolina, and David Engle, of Phillipsburg; a brother, Robert Engle and his wife, Sharon, of Port Carbon; 10 grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Michael, Christopher, Ashley, Allison, Damonica, Tiffany, Paula and Paul, and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane (Metz) Engle, in May 2012.


ENGLE — Melvin E. Engle, 74, of 15th and Centre streets, Ashland. A funeral service will be held at the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Dana Heckman-Beil officiating. Interment will be in Donaldson Community Cemetery, Donaldson. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Visit the website at
