Richard "Shady" Shade, 79, of 2591 Schwaben Creek Road, Rebuck, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at his home.
Richard was born in Fearnot, on Oct. 16, 1934, a son of the late Irene Shade and step-son of the late Marlin Kessler.
He attended Hubley Township High school and served with the National Guard.
He worked as a steel worker at Bethlehem Steel Company, Steelton, for 40 years.
Richard was a member of the Herndon F&AM Lodge #702, Erdman Sportsman Association and a Lifetime Member of the Herndon Fire Company.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Leah (Snyder) Shade; the couple married May 5, 1956.
Richard is survived by one daughter, Ginny Billow, wife of Paul Jr., of Dornsife; one daughter-in-law, Robyn, widow of Gregory Snyder, of Rebuck; one sister, Barbara Roadcap; five grandchildren, Gregory Snyder, Melissa Myers, Sarah Snyder, Becky Spickler, Josh Billow; 9 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Greg and a brother, Jimmy Kessler.
Services were held Friday, Nov. 1, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Leck Kill, with the Rev. Frederick Faust officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Leck Kill.
