Robert J. Leavens

YORK — Robert John Leavens, 18, of 2209 E. Philadelphia St., passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, from head injuries suffered in a skateboarding accident.

He was born June 26, 1995, in Toledo, Ohio, a son of Cheerlee and Jim Leavens. He and his family moved to York in 2004.

He attended York Suburban schools.

Robert was an avid skateboarder and snowboarder. However, for the past four years, he suffered from Lyme disease and due to the chronic pain this disease causes, he was unable to participate in the things he enjoyed and had to withdraw from high school.

His family was comforted in the fact that, with recent treatments, he was beginning to show signs of recovery. As tragic as his death was, he died doing something he loved. In keeping with the caring type of person Robert was, his family has donated his organs to the Gift of Life Foundation so that his death may bring life to others.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Elizabeth, of York; his paternal grandmother, Valerie Leavens, of Paxinos; his aunts and uncles, Theresa Leavens, of Paxinos, Robert and Sheryl Leavens, of Nags Head, N.C., Joe and AnnaMarie Leavens, of Elysburg, and Mike and Claire Leavens, of Boynton Beach, Fla; his cousins, Kim Leavens, of Langhorne, Matt Leavens and his wife, Hollie, of Kulpmont, Chris Leavens and his wife, Adriana, of Tujunga, Calif., Leanne Werner and her husband, Sean, of Palmerton, and Nick Leavens, of New York, N.Y., and a great aunt, Sister Mary Leona Bzura.
