Robert Welker

SHAMOKIN — Robert Welker, 85, of Upper Road, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 14, 2013, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township.

He was born June 28, 1927, a son of the late Charles and Anna (Enterline) Welker.

He attended Butler Township schools.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a heavy equipment truck driver with the 24th Transportation Company of the U.S. Army

He married Ada Felker Welker, who survives. His passing ends a marital union of 62 years.

He was employed as a steel fabricator with Standard Press Steel, of Jenkintown, Fogel Refrigeration, of Philadelphia, and lastly, with Keystone Shower Door Company, of South Hampton, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of St. Paul's Reformed United Church of Christ, Gowen City. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sandra McIlhenny, and her husband, Robert, of Middleport; a son, David Welker and his wife, Joan, of Mill Hall; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Diane Moll, of Hatboro, and Fay Zimmerman, of Helfenstein, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois McFall, and three brothers, James, Evert and Richard Welker.

WELKER — Robert Welker, 85, of Upper Road, Shamokin. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Reformed United Church of Christ, Gowen City, with the Rev. Jerry Schlegel officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Citizen's Cemetery, Lavelle. Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul's Reformed Church, 4881 Upper Road, Shamokin 17872.
