SHAMOKIN — Rose "Nana" Spatzer, 77, of 1007 N. Pearl St., passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township, after a short illness.
Born Sept. 8, 1936, in Shamokin, she was a daughter of the late Atilano and Theresa (Sabell) Vazquez. She was a lifelong Shamokin resident.
She was a 1955 graduate of the former St. Edward's High School.
Rose was married in June 1967 to Herman Spatzer, who preceded her in death in 1970.
She had been employed at the former Shroyer Dress Company and Shamokin Shoe Factory, and most recently Packaging Resources in Mount Carmel.
She was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin, and the Women of the Moose
, Shamokin Chapter.
"Nana" always kept in touch "via the phone" with all of her loving family, and never missed sending a card for birthdays, anniversaries, or any special occasion. She also enjoyed baking cookies for the holidays and special family events.
She was dearly loved, and will be sadly missed by her family and friends, which include her daughter, LauraLee Spatzer, of Herndon, Va.; two nieces, Dr. Emily (Laughlin) Pressley, of Lancaster, and Terry (Neary) Morgan, of Phenix City, Ala.; a nephew, Edward Laughlin, of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and "Nana's Kids," Lauren, Patrick, Catherine, Joseph, Bonnie, Bella Mia, Elizabeth, Andrew, Braeden, Brigit and Cara.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a nephew, James E. Neary; three sisters, Laura Rebuck, Rachael Neary and Mary Vazquez; and three brothers, Ambrose Bucanelli, Joseph Bucanelli and Michael Vazquez.
SPATZER — Rose "Nana" Spatzer, 77, of 1007 N. Pearl St., Shamokin. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Stephen A. Chowka Funeral Home, 114 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, with a Franciscan Friar from Mother Cabrini Parish presiding. Interment will follow in St. Edward's Cemetery, Coal Township. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until time of the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
