Ruth A. Russell, 91, of Tremont, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014 at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.
Born in Pine Grove Township, she was a daughter of the late George and Anna Maidenford Wenrich.
Ruth attended Pine Grove School and later graduated from cosmetology school. She worked at several locations as a beautician, including having a shop in her home in Tremont.
Ruth was very active in Republican politics. She was chairperson of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Schuylkill County, a member of the Pottsville Hospital Auxiliary and president of L.A.W.
She was an active member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Tremont.
Ruth loved to cook and bake for her family. She became an accomplished artist in her later years, but most of all, she loved her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard B. Russell, the former Schuylkill County district attorney; son, Robert Shott; granddaughter, Tracie Shott; and brother, Willard Wenrich.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Richard B. Russell Jr. and his wife, Joy, and a daughter, the Honorable Jacqueline L. Russell, all of Pine Grove; grandchildren, Jennifer L. Russell, Richard B. Russell III, David T. Russell and Robert Shott; nieces and nephews; and daughters, Kathleen Hess and Joanne Spotts.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15 at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Maureen Duffy-Guy officiating. Interment followed in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove. The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her memory to St. Peter's UCC Church, 57 Spring St., Tremont, PA 17981.
