Stephen J. Dormer

SHAMOKIN — Stephen J. Dormer, 76, of 201 W. Mulberry St., died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at his home.

He was born in Shamokin, a son of the late Kyran and Margaret (Quinn) Dormer.

Steve was a graduate of St. Edward's School, Class of 1955, and a faithful parishioner of Mother Cabrini Church.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Cold War.

He worked for both Firestone and Phelps Dodge. Before retiring, he was employed as a truck driver for Durdach's Beer Distributor.

He joined Geraldine A. Glassic in marriage Aug. 25, 1962, in St. Michael's Church.

For much of his life he resided on Pulaski Avenue in Coal Township.

Steve was a father of five and grandfather of six. He worked hard all his life and always put his family first.

In 1995, his wife of 33 years died suddenly and his life would never be the same. They were rarely apart and treasured trips to the shore, "yard sale-ing" on Saturdays, and preparing family dinners every Sunday.

In 2007, he moved to Lincoln Towers in Shamokin, where he enjoyed playing cards, rolling dice and, of course, winning that occasional bingo game. He loved the Philadelphia Phillies, and every year he looked forward to watching the Little League World Series.

He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

Surviving are his children, Stephen Dormer, of Northumberland, Annette Amrich and her husband, Joseph, of Kulpmont, Michelle Santor and her husband, Chris, of Elysburg, Brian Dormer and his wife, Rose, of Ranshaw, and Nicole Faraguna and her husband, John, of Herndon; a sister, Sister Rose Maureen Dormer, of Yonkers, N.Y.; a brother, Kyran Dormer and his wife, Lois, of Hamilton Square, N.J.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Glassic, wife of the late Frank Glassic, and Clara Glassic, wife of the late John "Jack" Glassic, and an honorary daughter/niece, Maureen Glassic, of Hunlock Creek. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jeremy Dormer, Kyle Luscavage, Ivy Dormer, Jared Luscavage, Andrew Dormer and Jacob Santor; several nieces and nephews, and his grandpups.

In addition to his wife and parents, Steve was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosemarie Malloy and Molly McKinney, and two nephews, Kieran and Jackie Malloy.
