COAL TOWNSHIP — Thomas H. Tidey, of 1668 W. Lynn St., Coal Township, formerly of Sunbury Street, Shamokin, a son of the late William and Elizabeth Tidey, of Shamokin, entered into heaven Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was 84.
Tom graduated from Shamokin High School in 1948.
In 1950, he was drafted into the U.S. Army
during the Korean War
. He was a member of "The First Team," 1st Cavalry Division, 8th Engineering Combat Battalion, Company D. Tidey's service in the Korean conflict included three treks across the 38th parallel.
Upon his return home from Korea, Tom joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 607, Shamokin, and would remain a proud member for the next 63 years. He and his IBEW brothers helped establish many area businesses, including the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station near Berwick and Merck's manufacturing facility in Riverside.
Tom was also a proud member of the Purple and White Sportsmen's Club, a group from the community who volunteered its time to help raise funds and support for Shamokin Area High School athletics.
Tom's favorite team was his loving family. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 56 years, the former Paula Pasco, and a sister, Eliza Jean Swett.
Tom was a loving husband, father and grandfather, affectionately known as Pap-Pap by his grandkids. He was kind, gentle and had a dry sense of humor. Tom loved doing crossword puzzles daily, doing arts and crafts, spending time with his pet dogs, playing golf and watching sports, especially football, and was always committed to the people around him.
Tom will be lovingly missed and survived by his three daughters, Annmarie Henninger, of Coal Township, with whom he resided, Barbara Lore and her husband, Christopher, of Cooksville, Md., and Paula Jean Tidey, of Valencia, Calif.; a son, Thomas J. Tidey and his wife, Lisa, of Dallas; four grandchildren, Casey Henninger, of Susquehanna University, Thomas P. Tidey, of Temple University, Nora Tidey, of Dallas, and James Lore, of Cooksville, Md.; a brother, William Tidey and his wife, Meryl, of Telford, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Mother Cabrini Church, 200 N. Shamokin St. at Webster Street, Shamokin. Interment of his cremains will follow Mass in St. Mary's Cemetery, Coal Township. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the visitation from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
