SHAMOKIN — Victoria F. Bednar, 91, of 201 W. Mulberry St., and formerly of 1502 W. Montgomery St., Coal Township, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the SUN Home Hospice Care Center, Northumberland, after a very brief illness.
Born Oct. 4, 1922, in Coal Township, she was a daughter of the late Antoni and Rozylia (Waraksa) Radziewicz. She was a lifelong Shamokin area resident.
She was a 1941 graudate of Coal Township High School.
On April 23, 1949, in St. Stephen's Church, she married Albert G. Bednar, who preceded her in death Dec. 31, 1985.
Early in her working life, she worked for the Glen L. Martins Airplane Manufacturing during World War II and the Shamokin Woolen Mills. She was then a housewife, taking care of her family.
She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church and the Shamokin/Coal Township Senior Action Center.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Albert J. and Nadine Bednar, of Sunnyside; two grandchildren, Adam and his wife, Jordin Bednar, and Julie and her husband, Justin Rhoads; a stepgranddaughter, Tina Estigo; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Juliana Rhoads and Scarlett Victoria Rhoads, and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Keatin and Nolan Dieffenbach, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, Anthony, Paul, Thomas and Frank Radziewicz, Pearl Baker, Sophie Gordon, Genevieve (Jean) Baker, Angelia (Nellie) Miller, Mary Kiersnowski and Dorothy in infancy.
BEDNAR — Victoria F. Bednar, 91, of 201 W. Mulberry St., Shamokin, and formerly of 1502 W. Montgomery St., Coal Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Hope Church, First and Chestnut streets, Coal Township. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. Viewing will be from 8:30 to 9:50 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home, Ltd., Leonard J. Lucas, supervisor, is in charge of the arrangements.
