Walter S. Verbitski

KULPMONT — Walter S. Verbitski, 95, formerly of 907 Pine St., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Mount Carmel Senior Living Community.

Born March 6, 1917, in Atlas, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Chmielewski) Verbitski. He lived in Atlas and Marion Heights prior to moving to Kulpmont in 1969.

Walter attended Mother of Consolation Grade School and Mount Carmel Township High School.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Sept. 20, 1944, in Holy Cross Church, Mount Carmel, he married the late Genevieve B. Kline, who preceded him in death on March 18, 2003.

He was employed in the local coal mines.

He was a member of the Church of the Holy Angels, Kulpmont and formerly a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Kulpmont Senior Action Center, Atlas Legion, West End Fire Company, Kulpmont.

Survivors include a son, Richard S. Verbitski, of Firestone, Colo.; one granddaughter, Sheryl Verbitski and her husband, Colby Vandenburg, of Littleton, Colo.; one grandson, Richard Verbitski, of Hagerstown, Md., and two great granddaughters, Finley and Olivia Vandenburg.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, John, and five sisters, Bertha, Victoria, Edna, Helen and Dorothy.

VERBITSKI — Walter S. Verbitski, 95, formerly of 907 Pine Street, Kulpmont. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Church of the Holy Angels, 855 Scott Street, Kulpmont, with The Rev. Andrew Stahmer officiating. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday with Transferral Prayers at 10 a.m. in the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, C.J. Lucas, Supervisor. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Church of the Holy Angels.
