COAL TOWNSHIP — William R. Murdock, 76, of 1083 Trevorton Road, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he was a guest for 1 1/2 months.
He previously resided at Emmanuel Home in Northumberland for 11 months and had been in ill health for two years.
Born in Shamokin March 18, 1937, he was a son of the late Victor and Eleanor (Sabornie) Murdock.
He was a resident of the Shamokin-Coal Township area his entire life.
Bill drove coal trucks, tractor-trailers and tanker trucks until his retirement.
His hobbies included working at a little food stand at Knoebels Amusement Resort, working in his yard and going to Disney World.
He was married June 17, 1961, in St. Edward Church, Shamokin, to the former Marilyn Sullivan, who preceded him in death Nov. 7, 2009.
Bill attended Shamokin schools and was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister.
He also was a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 458.
He served in the U.S. Army with the rank of specialist 4 and received the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Mirarchi and her husband, Joseph, of Coal Township, and Michelle Feese and her husband, Eric, of State College; four grandchildren, Connor and Ryan Mirarchi, and Erica and Holly Feese; two brothers, Kenneth Murdock and his wife, Rosemary, of Elysburg, and Jack Murdock and his wife, Roxanne, of Elysburg; two sisters, Peggy Smink and her husband, Dan, of Shamokin, and Millie Mowery, of Elysburg; and many nieces and nephews.
MURDOCK — William R. Murdock, 76, of 1083 Trevorton Road, Coal Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Mother Carbrini Church with a Franciscan friar officiating. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the James Kelly Funeral Home, Arch and Maple streets, Coal Township. A Christian wake service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday followed by a service conducted by the Knights of Columbus Council 458. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Relatives and friends attending the funeral are requested to meet at Mother Cabrini Church at 9:45 a.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be given to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School or the donor's favorite charity. Funeral arrangements and services are being handled by the Olley-Gotlob Funeral Home, 539 Race Street, Sunbury.
