LA PORTE, Texas - Andrew Charles Slodysko, 70, of La Porte, Texas, passed away while a patient at the Michael DeBakey Veterans Hospital in Houston, Texas, entering the door to his new journey Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018.

He was born in Shamokin, Oct. 28, 1947, a son of the late Andrew Joseph and Mildred (Berger) Slodysko.

Andrew attended Shamokin Area schools and was a graduate of the Shamokin Greyhounds Class of 1965. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1972.

He then became an employee of Bethlehem Steel for several years. He later moved to the warmer climates of Pensacola, Florida, and Birmingham, Alabama, eventually settling in the Houston area. During this time, he was an independent consultant to various steel mills, assisting with control, automation, engineering and technical support to reduce operational costs.

He was known as "Charlie" by family and friends while growing up and living in Pennsylvania, so as not to be confused with his father. Once established in Texas, he chose to be known as "Andy" to all who knew him, saying he was proud to be named after his father and happy to be using his name.

A quiet and gentle person, Andy was loved by all who knew him. It was not unusual for him to help a neighbor or friend in need. As a close friend said, his "soul shine" glowed the minute you met him. His delightful bear hugs and laughs will always be remembered and treasured by those who knew him. Andy was very spiritual by nature and enjoyed talking about his thoughts on the subject. He had a true love of the sea and boating, remaining close to the water during his life in Texas. During his retirement years, he enjoyed time spent with friends and his beloved dog, LB.

Andy is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Twiggar, of Coal Township, and Maryanne Fidler, of Shamokin; a brother, Thomas and his wife, Mary, of Coal Township; a loving companion, Kim Nicholson, of La Porte, Texas; and his cherished dog, LB.

SLODYSKO - Andrew Charles Slodysko, 70, of La Porte, Texas. At Andy's request, there will be no memorial service. He asked to leave this world as quietly as he came into it. Any memorial contributions can be made in his memory of the Pennsylvania SPCA, 1467 Bloom Road, Danville 17821.
