COAL TOWNSHIP — Anna B. "Barb" Heitzman, 87, formerly of 1043 W. State St., peacefully passed away while surrounded by her loving family at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Barb was born in the family homestead in Coal Township on July 26, 1926, a daughter of the late Bertha (Wachter) and Thomas McCabe.

On March 25, 1944, in St. Joseph Church, Coal Township, she married Maurice J. "Hook" Heitzman, who preceded her in death March 26, 1990.

She worked from 1950 to 1965 as a clerk at Wolfe's Department Store, Shamokin, and from 1965 to 1966 at Woolworth's Department Store, Shamokin. She was a seamstress from 1966 to 1974 at Anthracite Shirt Factory and also in 1978 at Morris-Fishman's.

Barb was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Church and the former St. Joseph Church, Coal Township, and a member of The Rainbow Club and the Shamokin-Coal Township Senior Action Center.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and "Hook," her husband of 46 years, she was preceded in death by four brothers, John McCabe, Edward McCabe, Thomas McCabe Jr. and Mark McCabe; three sisters, Emma McCabe, Rosemarie DeFacis and Margaret Heitzman.


HEITZMAN — Anna B. "Barb" Heitzman, 87, formerly of 1043 W. State St., Coal Township. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Hope Church, First and Chestnut streets, Coal Township, with Father Daniel Fink officiating. Family members and friends will be received at the visitation 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 West Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township. The Mass will be followed by interment in St. Edward Cemetery, Coal Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady Of Hope Church, 869 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township, PA 17866.
