SHAMOKIN — Betty Jane Coutts, 81, of 716 Clay St., Shamokin, died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

She was born in Fleetwood, Berks County, July 15, 1932, a daughter of the late Raymond and Mabel (Oswald) Dunkle.
She was a graduate of Kutztown High School.
She lived for years in Reading before moving to Shamokin 32 years ago.
Betty worked in the floral department for Acme Markets and later was employed at Knoebels Amusement Resort and Krock's Greenhouse.
She was married to William Coutts, who preceded her in death.
Betty was active in the Shamokin Moose and planned the yearly children's Christmas party until two years ago.
Survivors include her daughter, Meloney Hart Pettit and her husband, William, of Jim Thorpe, and a granddaughter, U.S. Air Force Major Rebecca Ann Hart, of San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George Dunkle, and two sisters, Fern Kershner and Gloria Blatt.
COUTTS — Betty Jane Coutts, 81, of 716 Clay St., Shamokin. Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. The family requests a small donation be made in Betty's name to Mostly Mutts Animal Shelter, 284 Little Mountain Road, Sunbury 17801.
