COAL TOWNSHIP — Calvin James Fertig, 95, of 2 S. Poplar St., passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident since April 30.

Born Nov. 30, 1917, in Shamokin, he was a son of the late John and Beulah (Burrell) Fertig.

He attended Coal Township High School.

He served in the U.S. Army with "Merrill's Marauders" during World War II.

He worked as an inspector for Phoenixville Steele Corporation, Phoenixville.

Calvin was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are his nieces, Marcia Barnabe, Tina Barnabe, of Coal Township, and Janice Lichty, of McAdoo, and many great-nieces and nephews.
