SHAMOKIN — Daniel R. "Dixie" Richardson, 85, of 108 N. Second St., passed away Thursday, May 24, 2013, at Geisinger Hospital for Advanced Medicine, Danville, with his loving family by his side.

He was born May 23, 1928, in Shamokin, a son of the late William and Mary (Wisloskie) Richardson.

Daniel was a graduate of St. Edward High School, Shamokin.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On Sept. 10, 1955, in St. Edward Church, Shamokin, he married the former Betsy Klemick, who survives.

He was a partner with his brother, William, for over 50 years in the family business, Dixie's Barber Shop, in Shamokin.

In his younger years, he was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Loyal Order of Moose. He enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was a life member of the Independence Fire Association, Shamokin.

In addition to Betsy, his wife of 57 years, Daniel is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Basalyga and Sharon Adami; four sons, Daniel Richardson, Mark Richardson, Kevin Richardson and Col. Michael Richardson; two sons-in-law, Robert Basalyga and John Adami; four daughters-in-law, Joyce Richardson, Darlene Richardson, Mary Lou Richardson and Mary Beth Richardson; 10 cherished grandchildren, Daniel, Emily and Anne Richardson, Adam and Lea Richardson, Jonathan Adami, Abigail, Hannah and Shawn Richardson, and Mary Richardson; a brother, William Richardson, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Faith Richardson; a step-father, George Kernmaier, and a step-sister, Dorothy Ross.

RICHARDSON — Daniel R. "Dixie" Richardson, 85, of 108 N. Second St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Church, First and Chestnut streets, Coal Township, with Daniel's nephew, Msgr. William M. Richardson as celebrant. Interment will follow Mass in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing is private for family members only. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial remembrances be sent to Daniel's church, Our Lady of Hope, 863 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township 17866.
