ASHLAND — Elwood "Woody" Harner, 87, of Cherry Street, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, at Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville

He was born April 4, 1927, in Mount Carmel, a son of the late Robert and Bertha (Crawford) Harner.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Wanda (Wolfgang) Harner, who survives. His passing ends a marital union of 63 years.

Woody drove truck for McCormick Trucking for 40 year and later drove a school bus for North Schuylkill schools for 16 years until his retirement.

He was a member of Christ E.C. Church, Lavelle.

Woody was a Scout master for 48 years for the Lavelle Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Lavelle Fire Company, The VFW and the American Legion posts in Ashland, and a member of the Ashland Fish and Game Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Barbara Hepler and her husband, Donald, and Janet Wolfgang, and her husband, Glenn, and a son, Robert Harner, and his wife, Cathy, all of Lavelle; six grandchildren, Jason, Jesse and Joshua Hepler, and Brian, Kristen and Michelle Harner; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Gabriel Hepler; a sister, Verna Lapachinsky, of Ashland, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Victor, Henry, Raymond, Franklin, Donald and Arnold.

HARNER — Elwood "Woody" Harner, 87, of Cherry Street, Ashland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ E.C. Church, Lavelle, with the Rev. Michael Eck officiating. Interment will be in Citizens Cemetery, Lavelle. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church.
