DANVILLE — Hilda J. Rothermel, 91, of 315 S. Hickory St., Mount Carmel, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Tuesday afternoon, June 25, 2013, after a brief stay at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

She was born in West Cameron Township, Oct. 15, 1921, a daughter of the late Richard A. and Bertha V. (Bohner) Haas.

A 1938 graduate of Trevorton High School, Hilda was a faithful member of Grace United Church of Christ, Mount Carmel, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and church choir member.

She was a former member and past worthy matron of Chrysanthemum Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Mount Carmel. She was a former member of Mount Carmel Women's Club, Mount Carmel Elks Auxiliary, Mount Carmel Senior Citizens and Rambler's Club.

Hilda was an avid bridge player and was active in crafts and quilting.

On Jan. 1, 1942, she was married to Willard A. Rothermel, who preceded her in death June 20, 2007.

Surviving are three children, Donna M. Hirst, of Katy, Texas, Ray W. Rothermel and his wife, Linda, of Mount Carmel, and Kay L. Shulski and her husband, Al, of Danville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Ray L. Haas and his wife, Margie, of Elysburg; a sister, Betty June Dare, of Harrisburg, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, John Arthur Rothermel; two brothers, Roy and Bill Haas, and five sisters, Mildred Schleig, Ferne Geigle, Toots Drake, Erma Baily and Lena Snyder.

ROTHERMEL — Hilda J. Rothermel, 91, of 315 S. Hickory St., Mount Carmel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Church of Christ, Mount Carmel, with the Rev. Joan Brown officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Willard A. Rothermel Funeral Home, 120-122 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, Ray W. Rothermel, director. The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to Grace UCC, Third and Market streets, Mount Carmel 17851.
