NEW ORLEANS — James E. "Pepsi" Heraty, 71, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, in New Orleans.

Jim graduated from Coal Township High School in 1959, where he played football and basketball for the Purple Demons.

He lived with his brother, Bob, for some time after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 before eventually returning to New Orleans.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Darryl Ann (Pence) Heraty. He was a proud father of James Jr. (Melanie), Patrick (Theresa), Thomas and Stephen (Ashlee) Heraty; loving paw-paw to Rebecca, Sarah, John, Alyssa and Aldan Heraty; brother of Robert (Elizabeth) Heraty Sr., of Kulpmont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James P. "Scotty" and Ruth Heraty; a brother, Jack Heraty; and infant son, Robert John Heraty.

A proud member of the "Who Dat Nation" and Heraty Fantasy Football League, he was a fan of the LSU Fighting Tigers and New Orleans Saints.

He was a proud American who faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army.
