John "Marlin" E. Cotner, 73 of Herndon, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Sun Home Hospice Care Center in Sunbury.

He was born August 3, 1939, in Sunbury, a son of the late Anna (Wise) and Marlin R. Cotner. He was married for 49 years to Sandra (Eyster) Cotner who survives.
John was retired from Motor Truck Equipment Co. and Michael Foods.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Urban and the Herndon Fire Company.
He was a 1958 graduate of Mahanoy Joint High School and served in the US Army for three years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Tammy and son-in-law, Steven Sheer, of Boca Raton, Fla.; a granddaughter, Madison Sheer; a grandson, Jaxon Sheer of Fla.; a sister, Barbara Sluga, as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Cotner.
A visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20 in St. Paul's United Church of Christ Urban, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Degnitz and Pastor Robert Reich officiating. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery, Urban.
