COAL TOWNSHIP — John R. Brennan Sr., 63, of 1730 Park Ave., passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014, at his residence. He was in ailing health for the past several months.

John was born Aug. 19, 1950, a son of the late John J. and Mildred M. (Braubitz) Brennan.

John was married June 1, 1974, in St. Joseph Church, Coal Township, to the former Kathy M. Gruneberg, who survives.

He was a 1968 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School. He graduated from Williamsport Community College in 1970 with an associate degree in business.

John was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue as an enforcement agent. He retired in 2003.

He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township.

John was a staunch supporter and volunteer at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School, Coal Township. He formerly helped as an assistant basketball coach, athletic director, business manager and statistician for sporting events.

He enjoyed golf, shuffleboard and vacationing in Florida, where he served as the current president of Clearwater Shuffleboard Club in Clearwater, Fla.

In addition to his wife, Kathy, he is survived by two sons, John R. Brennan Jr. and companion, Stephanie Rogerwick, of Pottstown, and William J. Brennan and wife, Marise, of Etters; three grandchildren, John R Brennan III, Keegan Brennan and Elliana Brennan; three brothers, James F. Brennan and his wife, Irene, of Lewisburg, Edward J. Brennan and his wife, Marie, of Lewisburg, and Ronald F. Brennan and his wife, Carol, of Harrisburg; a sister, Mildred M. Blasé, of Encinitas, Calif.; a mother-in-law, Ella Gruneberg, of Coal Township, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Colleen (Loftus) Brennan, and a brother, Gerald J. Brennan.

BRENNAN — John R. Brennan Sr., 63, of 1730 Park Ave., Coal Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Church, First and Chestnut streets, Coal Township, with the Rev. Steve Frenier as celebrant. A memorial visitation with the family will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday morning at the church. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Trevorton Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School, 2001 Clinton Ave., Coal Township 17866, or the Clearwater Shuffleboard Club, 1020 Calumet St., Clearwater, Fla. 33755. The Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, is in charge of the arrangements.
