MOUNT CARMEL — Joseph G. Blase, 57, of 107 N. Maple St., passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at his home.

Born Jan. 23, 1955, at Ashland State Hospital, he was a son of Helen Blase, of Mount Carmel, and the late Joseph Blase.

Joseph was a 1973 graduate of Mount Carmel Area High School, where he played the trumpet in the Mounties High School Band.

On Dec. 27, 1975, in St. John the Baptist Church, Mount Carmel, he married Kathleen P. (Sassani) Blase, who survives.

A master mechanic, Joe owned an operated the Transmission Clinic for more than 20 years before moving on to a career at Danville State Hospital.

He was a member of the Church of Our Lady, Mount Carmel. Joe was a family man and found great joy in watching his children grow and begin lives of their own. He was a coach in the Mount Carmel Little League baseball organization and was always a face in the crowd at his children's events.

Joe loved music and playing musical instruments was a hobby of his for most of his life. He performed with a local band "The Moonlighters" in the 1970s. He also enjoyed gardening and collecting vintage bicycles. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than hugs and kisses from his two granddaughters. One of the greatest joys in his life was hitting the lottery, not for himself, but so that he could share it with others.

Joe will be remembered as a man who was always willing to help others and make everyone feel as though they were part of his family.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Dorothy Blase, of Mount Carmel Estates, and Brian and Kaitlyn Blase, of Palmyra; a daughter and son-in-law, Abbie and Thomas Blasick, of Riverside.; two grandchildren, Ellie and Anna; three step-grandchildren, Alessa, Timothy and Luke; a mother-in-law, Eileen M. Sassani, of Mount Carmel; a brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Kathy Blase, of Minersville; a sister-in-law, Julie Mace, of Mount Carmel; two nieces, Linda Blase and Shannon Heller; two nephews, Michael Blase and Daniel Heller and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
