COAL TOWNSHIP — Kathryn M. Graykoskie, 102, a former longtime resident of Coal Township, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, May 24, 2013, holding her daughter's hand and with her "favorite" son-in-law by her side.

She was born Nov. 29, 1910, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Cora and Willis McCoy.

She was in the 1928 class of Shamokin High School and obtained her nursing diploma from Graduate Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia in 1931.

She joined the staff of what was then Shamokin State Hospital, where she nursed several generations of local residents, retiring in 1968.

Kathryn belonged to Our Lady of Hope Church, previously attended St. Stephen's, and was raised as a member of Chestnut Street Methodist Church. She was a founding member of the Shamokin Nurses' Club and had been active in the Sunshine Club, the Ramblers Club, the Bloodmobile and other community activities.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Margaret (Mimi) Kantner and her husband, Edward, of Hagerstown, Md.; a beloved grandson, Mark Kantner, of Richmond, Va.; a loving granddaughter, Kay Goodwin and her husband, Charles, of Hockessin, Del.; two adoring great-granddaughters, Abby and Caitlyn Goodwin, and several nieces and nephews, including Richard McCoy and Albert Gricoski, who were so kind to her throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 66 years, Martin A. Graykoskie, who passed away March 21, 2007; five brothers, Ralph, Willis, Lloyd, Raymond and Lester McCoy, and three sisters, Eva Booker, Pearl Haupt and Verna Allison.
